We had three prospective guests at the meeting. The first one is Gary Rye who owns a 1990 coup, 6 speed, red on red. Gary found our website on the internet and decided to attend a meeting and check us out. Also attending are Aaron and Sharon Terrell who own a 1984 two- tone silver corvette they are restoring. They also wanted to find out what our club was about.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

TREASURER’S REPORT: Dorothy South reported on the expenditures and deposits she had for the past month. She has received all the dues for the coming year she expects to get. She gave an accounting of the money that was spent on the car show. She did have two sponsors who donated trophies for the show and helped defray the cost of the show. They were Terry Kesselring of Antique Auto and Taylor Made Exterminators from Ft. Thomas. Larry Kidney won $77.50 on the split-the-pot at the car show. Dorothy thanked everyone who came out early that Saturday and helped set up for the show. She hopes that next year we can have a show in September and work on it all year and have a great show. Many ideas were mentioned and hopefully we can plan an even bigger and better show next year. If anyone has any more ideas for the car show next year, feel free to get involved and help plan this event next year.

SECRETARY’S REPORT: Stan Bond – No one had any corrections or additions to last month’s newsletter

NKYVETTE – Jon Hanas – A lot of spontaneous events pop up and the e-mail does reflect those events. So keep checking into the website to find out what is going on

VICE PRESIDENT’S /ACTIVITIES REPORT: Kurt Meier

Kurt has a few tidbits to share with us. He picked up a Corvette Fever magazine and found an ad that starts out, Are you a Corvette fanatic? He found a C5 executive leather desk chair for sale. He thought this was really cool chair and thought we would all like to see it. I wonder if Kurt has ordered it yet?

Every year the National Corvette Museum raffles off a car and this year it happens to be the 50th anniversary car. As ambassador to the museum, he is proud to say he will be selling those tickets so brace yourself and get ready to buy some of these tickets

He received an e-mail from the museum that the Corvette plant has been shut down to private tours because of the security over the September 11 situation.

For MOD day people – Valvoline has put up a new website called www.Valvoline.com that if you have a problem with your car you can get on their website and they will tell you how to fix the problem. Kurt hopes that Gary Benke will take a look at this site and give us a report on it at the next meeting.

Mid America is sponsoring a "Stampede" petition to the United States Post Postal Service to come out with a Corvette stamp. The stamp has a C1 1953 car on the front if it. He asks that everyone sign the petition and he will send it back to Mid America

OLD BUSINESS

Fall Run - Bill & Cathy Hengstebeck put together a great fall run. We had about 12 cars show up and the route Bill picked out had many twisting and hilly roads. We stopped in Madison Ind for about an hour and enjoyed the view and some of the antique shops. We left there at 5pm and drove to Belterra for a great buffet meal. The weather was great and I think everyone had a good time. Nothing better than seeing a group of corvettes out on the road together on a beautiful, sunny day.

KY Speedway – A great time was had by all who went to the speedway and drove their cars around the track. After making their purchases of $40 in the gift shop, a group of corvettes were allowed to get on the track together and they had a great ride. Some said they got up to a speed of 105. There is no guarantee that they will have the same luck the next year, but everyone had a great time and is looking forward to doing it again next year.

Toys for Tots - Tom Keen, our newsletter sponsor, put together a great run. The weather was great and at least 225 cars showed up at the Peace Bell to start the run. This run was put together in short period of time but it was well organized and we really enjoyed it. It was great to see Kurt Meier drive in to the lot at the Peace Bell with the top of his car off in 50° weather. Such dedication is commendable. We heard he did end up driving one of the shorter routes of the cruise. Thanks to Tom Keen for putting together this event and I am sure the Marines appreciate the donations of toys they received. God Bless America.

NEW EVENTS

The Christmas Party will be held on Sunday, December 9 at the Cold Springs Roadhouse this year. Hors’deurves will be served from 6-7:30 p.m. with a Cash bar only. Dinner will start at 7:30pm. There will be gifts and door prizes to be given out.

A red flyer with the choices for the meal is included in the newsletter. Cost is $26 per person. Please return reservations with your check no later than December 4. Make check payable to the Fort Thomas Corvette Club and mail to P.O. Box 75383, Fort Thomas, KY 41075 by December 4.

Please plan to bring a few canned goods to be given to the Hosea House at 9th & York Street in Newport. At Christmas time it is a good idea to try to give something to those who are less fortunate.

Zora Arkus Duntov is recognized as the father of the corvette. He owned only one corvette in his lifetime - a 1974 blue car. This car has been given to the Corvette museum as a gift. The museum would like to have this car restored and they suggested that our club get involved with the restoration of Duntov’s car. The Queen City Chapter of the NCRS and the Fort Thomas Corvette Club has agreed to take on this project. Neither club will have any financial obligation to this restoration project. A committee has been formed of Kurt Meier and Doug Schwegman from the Ft Thomas Corvette Club and Tim Mickey and Matt Stansberry will represent the Queen City Chapter of the NCRS. They will meet on November 30 at the museum to discuss this project. It is an honor to be selected to help restore the only Duntov car known on the face of the earth.

ELECTION OF OFFICERS

The following people will take office in January 2002

President Doug Schwegman

Vice President/Activities Chairman Kurt Meier

Secretary Jon Hanas

Treasurer Jeff Sluder

Congratulations. Thank you for running for the above offices and we look forward to another great year with this group of officers.

DENTED HUBCAP AWARD: We found out Gary Benke, who had open heart surgery, went to the Ky Speedway on November 3, drove his car in access of 100 MPH around the track, against his cardiologist suggestion. After all these events that he survived we understand he got up from the couch and had a groin injury. So we think he qualifies for a repeat of the Dented Hubcap Award.
