VICE PRESIDENT’S /ACTIVITIES REPORT: Kurt Meier

Carlisle Corvette ShowIt is reputed to be one of the best car shows ever plus one of the best old Corvette car parts show. We had the good fortune of having Dan Aseere’s car represented in a special classification of cars. There were over 2000 cars in that display. The National Corvette Restoration Society had the task of picking out the favorite car. Dan’s car was selected by the chief NCRS judge to represent what he thought a Corvette should look like. Congratulations, Dan

Wood Hudson Cancer Research Show - Kurt thanked everyone who came to the show. There were 12 cars that participated. It was a nice event and made a good show for Wood Hudson Cancer Research.

Valley Vineyard Run – A great time was had by all those who attended. This year everyone was asked to tell a funny Corvette story if they had one. The group was asked to vote on three stories at a time. The survivor (winner) of these stories happened to be our president, Doug Schwegman and his wife Jesse with the funniest stories.

Saturday, October 13Car Show - Dorothy South is planning a cruise in and car show at the Cold Springs Roadhouse on US 27. Entry fee is $5 per car. A disc jockey will be at the show from 3:00-7:00. It will be open to all types of cars. The first 50 cars will receive dash plaques. Trophies will be given to the best GM, best Ford, best Chrysler, best original, best Corvette, best street rod and best restored. We can register for the car show between 4:00 & 5:00. Judging will take place between 5:00 – 7:00. At 7:00 a room will be made available at the Roadhouse to have dinner and socialize. At 9:00 the Roadhouse is going to bring in a band that will be playing until midnight This is a great chance to show our apprecation the the Roadhouse for letting us have our monthly meetings at their facility.

Dorothy is looking for volunteers to make this car show a success. Please call her and offer to help on this event. She will start setting up at 3:00 on Saturday.

Doug Schwegman would like to see a great turnout for this event. Ask your friends to bring their car and join in the fun. They can come out for a couple of hours, show off their cars, have dinner and stay to enjoy the music in the evening. Summer is winding down and we will not be able to show our cars off much longer after October.

Sunday, October 14 October Run – Bill Hengstebeck has put together a great road rally for us again this year. We will leave 40 North Grand Avenue promptly at 12:00. We will drive to Madison Indiana which is a very pretty drive. Hopefully by that time the trees will be turning to fall colors. Madison Indiana is a beautiful town by the river, old homes to tour and some antiques shops are available. We will leave Madison at 5 pm and drive to Belterra for a buffet dinner at approximately 5:30. Dinner is buffet style and includes coffee, iced tea and soft drinks. Price per person is $13.60 including tax. Alcoholic beverages will be available at an additional charge. Tipping should also be handled on your own. We will be seated as a group in the gazebo area; however, we will not attempt to seat everyone at one or two large tables.

Saturday, November 3 - Kentucky Speedway Bill Hengstebeck let the club know that on November 3 at the Kentucky Speedway if you go into the gift shop and spend $40 you can drive 3 laps of the track at about 85 mph in your car.

Sunday, November 11 - Toys for Tots Run - Tom Keen Auto Parts is sponsoring a car run starting at 11:00 at the World Peace Bell in Newport Ky to the Grand Victoria. All participants are required to bring a brand new toy for a child up to 13 years of age. Participants will be given a voucher for 2 free dinners at the Casino.

Sunday, December 9 - Christmas Party is in the workings. Dorothy South and John Ullman are presently working out the details for this party. It will be held at the Cold Springs Roadhouse again this year. They have suggested that everyone plan to bring in some canned goods to be given to an organization to help the needy at Christmas time. More news will be available about the party at the November meeting.

NEXT YEAR’S EVENTS: Doug Schwegman

This is a little early but we are looking for a winter program. If anyone has any ideas, events that might be of interest to the club, or places that you might want to go to during the winter months, please suggest them to the members of the board.

WEBSITE NEWS: Jon Hanas reported that our new website is up and running again and he is trying to make changes to keep it current. Thanks Jon for all the time you spend making the website so great.

Jon Hanas has found a company that makes flag caddies, which are little post that fit on your car that hold American flags. He found a company that is willing to do the club logo on one of these flags. The price is $11.00 for 1 and $20 for 2 If anyone is interrested in this please contact Jon about ordering them. It only takes 4 –5 days to get them. Reach Jon Hanas on the internet if you are interested in buying these flags at jhanas1@home.com.

DENTED HUBCAP AWARD: This month we have a member facing a triple by-pass surgery, but put it off so he could be at our car show, put up a lift in his garage, and go on the last road rally. We think Gary Benke deserved the dented hubcap award.

SPLIT-THE-POT - Picked by Dave Aubrey and won by John Ullman $36.50. Congratulations!!
