COMMITTEE REPORTS:

TREASURER’S REPORT: Dorothy South reported she has had a few expenditures for mailing of the newsletter and has deposited money from the split-the-pot drawing and the new membership dues.

SECRETARY’S REPORT: There were no additions or corrections to the newsletter this month.

VICE PRESIDENT’S /ACTIVITIES REPORT: Kurt Meier

Kurt was absent from the meeting this month because he was attending the NCRS Convention in Texas, so Doug is filling in for him.

Fourth of July Parade was a fun-filled, off and on wet event. We met at the Party Source and made our way in the rain to Fred Macke’s home for a delicious breakfast. After breakfast we lined up our cars in the drizzling rain and waited for the parade to start. There were 23 cars that participated in the parade including some from the Eastgate Corvette Club. It did stop raining during the parade so we could throw out candy to the kids. Thanks again to Fred Macke for inviting us to his home for breakfast. I hope we did leave too much of a mess to be cleaned up.

Friendship Day - The day at Scarlet Oaks Vocational School with the autocross racing was a beautiful day. After the racing, there was a poker run ending at the Armco Park for a picnic. Awards were won by Jeff Sluder, Bill Hengstebeck and Gary Benke for being part of the top 15 out of 45-50 corvettes. I think Jeff Sluder, Cliff Barber, Doug Schwegman, and Kurt Meier had a great time cooking all the hamburgers and hot dogs for the crowd. Thanks to Tom Keen for sponsoring the event and Jim Gramer for providing the delicious meat for the picnic

July 18 – Campbell Lodge Event – We will meet at the Cold Springs Roadhouse at 5:30 p.m.to cruise together to pick up the boys at the Campbell Lodge. We will take them to Frisch’s to eat, let them spend time checking out the cars at the cruise-in and then take them for a ride in the Corvettes and back to the Campbell Lodge. The boys look forward to this trip each year and have been discussing it for quite some time. This year there will be about 18 boys available for this event. So please plan to sign up and take one of the boys for the ride of their life. If you have not signed up for the event, call Stan Bond at 859-525-6479.

This is also the third Wednesday of the month, and our club is the sponsor for the Frisch’s cruise-in. If you cannot make the trip to Campbell Lodge, please bring your car to the cruise-in to show if off. If you know of any one that has a special interest car or race car that is unique, please invite them to bring their car. This may help build up interest in the cruise-in and bring in a bigger crowd of people

Saturday, July 28 – Cincinnati "Garage–Mahal" Tour convenes at 9:00 AM at the Cincinnati Marriott North Hotel parking lot. The hotel is located at Exit 19 (Union Centre Blvd) off 1-75. At 9:30 AM we will depart, in caravan, for a nice drive to the "Garage Mahal". Be sure to bring your cameras and a FRS radio for the caravan. Please check in to Corvette Forum.com so they have some idea as to how many will be going.

Sunday, July 29 – Eastgate Corvette Club Annual Car Show from 3:00p.m. - 5:00p.m. Judging will be from 5:00p.m. - 6:30p.m. Trophies will be awarded beginning at 7:00p.m. Registration is $15.00 per car. Their charity is the Children’s Hospital Medical Center.

August 12 - Kentucky Speedway Event – We had tentatively scheduled a trip to the Kentucky Speedway to display our cars and also try to raise money for Wood Hudson Cancer Research Our proposal was to run laps at the speedway and take people for rides around the track. Unfortunately the Ford dealers of Greater Cincinnati have refused to let us do that.

We are looking for an alternate event on August 12. If you have any suggestions, let one of the board members know and we can plan another event.

August 18-19 - Sports Car Club of America – Cincinnati Region – is going to host this inaugural event at Lunken Airfield. They are going to take the runways and taxiways and have road racing on them. They are looking for volunteers to work at the race. If you don’t want to work there, but are interested in going over as a club that can be arranged also. Please call Doug Schwegman if you are interested in volunteering for this event. We will try to get the information about this event and put it on our website as soon as possible

Saturday, August 25 – The C5R that has won the 24-hour race at Daytona and 24-hour LeMans race is supposed to be racing at the Mid Ohio track. The race starts at 1:00 p m It takes about 31/2 hours to drive up there. The race lasts four hours and we could drive back that night.

August 30 – September 2 – Annual National Corvette Museum Birthday Celebration - This year they are going to have collection of Corvettes owned by astronauts. This will be the first time these cars have ever been together. Dr. Dick Thompson, who is a very early vintage Corvette racer will be there.

1953-1955 Motorama - At least fourteen 1953-1955 cars will be there. In addition to that, the Museum has promised that they will have a Serial Number 003. It is the earliest Serial Number known on the face of the earth.

The Corvette museum is raffling off a 2001 Corvette to raise money for the museum Since sales are declining, a special offer is being made to the Corvette clubs. If we sell 20 tickets, we can have a drawing and the winning ticket will receive a free membership for a year or they can renew their membership for a year. Tickets are $10.00 a piece and the winner was Bob Adams. Congratulations, Bob

NEW BUSINESS – Doug Schwegman

Generally we change our officers in September. What we need to do is put this on the table to see if we can change the by-laws to let this Board stay on until December. What Doug proposed is that we let the present board stay on until January and elect new officers in January

Bill Hengstebeck made a motion to change the by-laws to read that we elect new officers in January of each year. It was seconded by Bob Dameron. This will be put on a ballot and voted on by the members at the August meeting

Bill Hengstebeck brought a computer enhanced picture of his car to show us. Bill said the man does a great job and he will do the picture any way you request it. His name is Dan Dakin and he can be reached at 513-860-9226 or 937-470-8296. His e-mail address is Doakin7307@aol.com

Comments by the President – Doug Schwegman

Point of Interest – Auto Week Magazine just had a survey of all their readers and the Corvette was voted the Number One car in America.

I asked two meetings ago how we were doing as a group of officers and I didn’t get any negative comments which I appreciate. Feel free any time to call us or let us know if you have any ideas on how things could be better, how we can generate more membership, generate more activity, more people coming to the events, and what kind of events you would like to do

Gary Benke informed us that Greg Thatcher is leaving Kerry Chevrolet and that Kevin Miller is the new person to contact if we are interested in having work done on our cars.

DENTED HUB CAP AWARD – This award goes to Burt Tienken tonight. Burt, who has only had his corvette for a few months, was going up to Madison Indiana to visit some relatives with his son sitting beside him. His son had his head against the door panel and his cap looked like it was going to come off. He reached over to take the cap off and when he looked back in front of him the traffic had stopped and he ran into a 1988 Mercury Grand Marquee.

SPLIT-THE-POT – Picked by Jodi Tienken. Won by Dorothy South - $15.00 Congratulations
