New Members
We have two new members to welcome to the club. The first one is Branden Mardis from Florence who owns a black 2001 Corvette. He is a sales engineer and also attends college.
Our second new member is Sharon Garnett who owns a silver 1980 coup. She is a medical assistant and loves classic Vettes. We also welcome Burt Tienken who just bought a 1973 blue convertible on May19. He heard our club does a lot of neat things and decided to come and check us out. VICE PRESIDENT’S /ACTIVITIES REPORT: Kurt Meier
July 4th Parade – We will meet at the Party Source in Bellevue, Ky between 8:30 & 9:00. We
will line up in a parade formation and drive thru a back way in Ft. Thomas and park in the same place we did last year for the parade. We will then walk back to Fred Macke’s home about a block away for a great breakfast. We will go back to our cars about 10:45 and the parade is scheduled to begin at 11:00. Please remember to bring large bags of candy to throw out to the kids during the parade. After the parade is over everyone is invited to go to the park by the Civic Center for a picnic lunch. Plan to bring your lunch along and join everyone for a good time.
June 21-24 - Bloomington Gold – Dan Aseere said he thinks that the Eastgate Corvette Club may have a couple of extra rooms available for the Bloomington Gold. If anyone is interested in going to the Bloomington Gold, fliers are available or you can call Dan Aseere and he will give you any information that you need.
July 8 – Friendship Day - The day begins at the Scarlet Oaks Vocational School where there will be autocross racing. Later there will be a poker run ending at the Armco Park for a picnic. Tom Keen will supply all the meat for the picnic and everyone should plan to bring a covered dish or a dessert. The Ft. Thomas Corvette Club traditionally sponsors the cookout. Jim Gramer provides us with the best burgers, metts and brats and we cook (burn) them to perfection. We will be looking for about 4 or 5 guys that want to have a good time cooking for 75-80 people. Those who attended last year had a great time. Mark your calendar and plan to be there again
this year.
July 18 – Campbell Lodge Event – Stan Bond is heading up the event this year. Traditionally, we pick the boys up about dinnertime, take them to Frisch’s to eat, let them spend time at the cruise-in and then take them for a ride in the Corvettes and back to the Campbell Lodge. The boys have been asking when this trip is going to take place this year. This year there will be about 15 boys available for this event. So please plan to sign up and take one of these boys for a ride.
August 12 - Kentucky Speedway Event – The Committee for this event has met with the company that plans events for the Kentucky Speedway. A presentation was made as to what kind of program we would like to have. The Kentucky Speedway must approve this program. As of yet, we have not heard anything. We will get the word out as soon as we know anything. If this event does not work out or take place, another outing will be planned for that day at a different location.
August 18-19 - Sports Car Club of America – Cincinnati Region – is having a Lunken Airport Race Day. They are looking for volunteers to work at the race. They are also looking in to having a Corvette car show. This would be an opportunity for us to volunteer our warm bodies and enjoy two days of racing. Doug Schwegman said this is an inaugural event, which is really fantastic. The SCCA is a nationally recognized sports car club and if this becomes a happening or event we want to be a part of it. We want to make a strong commitment for our club to be supportive for this event. Let Kurt Meier know as soon as possible if you are interested in volunteering and being a part of this event.
August 30 – September 2 – Annual National Corvette Museum Birthday Celebration - This year they are going to have collection of Corvettes owned by astronauts. This will be the first time these cars have ever been together. Dr. Dick Thompson, who is a very early vintage Corvette racer will be there.
1953-1955 Motorama - At least fourteen 1953-1955 cars will be there. In addition to that, the Museum has promised that we will have a Serial Number 003. It is the earliest Serial Number known on the face of the earth. That Corvette will be down there.
CLOTHING COMMITTEE – Dan Aseere - If anyone is interested in ordering a shirt, wind shirt or hat, please Contact Dan Aseere. He needs to order at least six pieces at a time in order to get the special price. Order forms are available at the meeting or you can look on our website at NKYVETTE.COM to find the prices for the merchandise. Clothing must be paid for in advance by check. Just mail order form and check to Dan Aseere at 6803 Waterbury, Mason, OH 45040. For information you can call him at 513-573-6075.
NKYVETTE.COM – Jon Hanas – If you have not given your email address to Jon, do so as soon as possible so he can put you on his list.
OLD BUSINESS
June 16 Road Rally - A big hand of applause for Chip Schwegman who put this trip together. He pulled off some of the best weather we have had so far this year. The scenery was just beautiful as we rode thru Augusta and Maysville Ky and then thru Lexington in the horse farm country. After that we went on to Danville where we attended The Great American Brass Band Festival. It was so much fun to just sit under the big shade trees in the park and listen to the music and get to know everyone. After a relaxing afternoon we had a delicious supper at the Beaumont Inn. A great time was had by all.
NEW BUSINESS – Doug Schwegman
At the last meeting I asked for suggestions on how we are doing on the club, how we are running the club. If you have any comments, please give them to any member on the board and I will get them. If there are some new events you would like to participate in or if you would like to sponsor an event or any new ideas you have for the club, please let him know.
DENTED HUB CAP AWARD – This award goes to Bob Adams who ran amuck of the law because they don’t understand what Corvettes are all about. Some cops seem to take offense at smoking the tires once in awhile. You can talk to Bob Adams about all the details. He will be more than happy to give them to you
Cruise-In at Willie’s Sports Bar – The owner of Willie’s is interested in having a cruise-in at his place in Covington Our club could use a little exposure in that area and Doug will talk with the owner and try to set something up on short-term basis. When he has a confirmed date, he will call Jon Hanas and get it on the internet and use the phone list to contact everyone. It would be great to have a good showing for this event
SPLIT-THE-POT - Won by Rita Bond - $30.00 Congratulations
