New Members
We have a new member to welcome to the club. His name is Bill Zembrodt and his wife’s name is Kathleen. Bill works for 5/3 Bank as Vice President of Application Development. He has a 1998 Pewter Corvette he bought two years ago. Bill said his grandfather had worked for GM for 37 years so the first thing he did after he got the corvette was to take his grandfather out for a ride. He said he is excited about joining the club and hanging around people with similar interests. His other hobbies include basketball, flag football and computers.
Welcome to the Club

COMMITTEE REPORTS:
SECRETARY’S REPORT: Stan Bond -There were no corrections or additions to the newsletter.
Stan reported that a number of people from the club went to Bowling Green for the C5 Birthday Bash and had a great time. We got to see a Z06 convertible and hard tops that people had modified. We also saw some C5R cars. On Saturday we went to the drag strip to race our cars. I have a 2001 Vette and as I was getting ready to race, a Z06 pulled up beside me. I did not think I had a chance, but he drove worse than I did. I did beat him. I ran 13.5 ET and about 102 MPH. We also saw a C5 that caught on fire because they had put nitrous in the engine in the staging lane.
TREASURER’S REPORT: Doug reported that Dorothy South could not be at the meeting tonight. Her grandson had been in an automobile accident with some serious injuries so we will dispense with the treasurer’s report until next month. Dorothy’s grandson will be in a wheelchair about six months while recuperating from a back leg break. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers that everything will go well and he will soon be well again.
UPCOMING EVENTS: A couple of things have changed since our last meeting.
Cruise-In at Frisco’s – The Frisch’s management does not want to start the formal cruise-ins until after Memorial Day. We will still be scheduled for the third Wednesday of each month starting on June 20. If anyone has any suggestions to make this a more interesting event such as bringing in a racecar or a funny car please let Doug know. He would be happy to contact them
And invite them to the cruise-in.
Pyramid Hill Event –May 20 - Canceled - Jon Hanas reported that after visiting Pyramid Hill he felt that the place was too small, no place to park, and the roads are too small for driving through. Jon is looking into some other options and will let us know as soon as possible by e-mail and the phone list.
VICE PRESIDENT’S /ACTIVITIES REPORT: Kurt Meier
One segment that I decided to undertake several years ago was club representative from the National Corvette Museum. The NCRS is the fostering organization for the museum and at the Cincinnati Chapter of the NCRS Matt Stansberry always gives a report about what is going on at the museum. A number of years ago I was appointed as the ambassador to the museum for the Ft. Thomas Corvette Club and they ask that we give a little report of what is going on down there. The museum has had some financial struggles in the past but it has gotten better of late. They have a very aggressive directorship and things are starting to turn around. We have always felt from a club standpoint that because we are a Kentucky Corvette Club and the Corvette Museum is right in our backyard we have always gone out of our way to make things special for the museum. This past bus trip, for example, between the Queen City Chapter of the NCRS and Ft. Thomas Corvette Club, we each sponsored a theater seat and in doing that we gave a joint donation of $1000.00. We have always tried to espouse to the benefit of the museum and we will try to continue to do so. One way each of us can help the museum is by joining as an annual member. A contribution of $50.00 or more will receive a special dash plaque commemorating participation in the museum.
Jon Hanas said that the museum has purchased a satellite TV hookup with some of their funds. They are going to have the museum open for the full 24 Hours of the LeMans Race and have an informal race party that you can watch on Speed Vision. It would be a fun thing to do, if anyone is interested in attending.
We had a lot of fun being out at the Campbell County Vocational School a few Saturdays ago. It was a beautiful day and everyone had a great time. There were a lot of cars there and our club was well represented for this event. We try to sponsor them with a scholarship at the end of each year and they are very appreciative of our presence.
Saturday, May 19 – Biggs 3Rd Annual Spring Cruise-In 5-9 p.m. Any car club bringing 10 or more cars will receive a cash donation.
June 8,9,10 – Mid Ohio Race Track – It would be a wonderful trip to go up there. It is about an hour and a half out of Columbus. You can actually make the trip in one day or plan to stay overnight in one of the hotels. They have practice racing on Saturday and then racing all day Sunday. If you are interesting in making a run to Mid Ohio get in touch with Doug Schwegman.
June 16 – Bachman Chevrolet Car Show in Louisville, Ky - CANCALLED - Click here for replacement Danville
June 22-24 - Bloomington Gold – If anyone is interested in going to the Bloomington Gold fliers are available or you can call Dan Aseere and he give you any information that you need.
July 4 – Fort Thomas Parade – This event usually begins with breakfast at Bob Evans and then rolling into Fort Thomas for the parade. We are hoping to have a picnic afterward in the park Kurt is looking for someone to organize this event. Kurt would be happy to hear from someone who is interested in putting this event together.
July 8 – Friendship Day – Tom Keen sponsors most of the events for that day. The day begins at the Scarlet Oaks Vocational School where there will be autocross racing. Later there will be a poker run ending at the Armco Park for a picnic. Tom Keen will supply all the meat for the picnic and everyone should plan to bring a covered dish or a dessert. The Ft. Thomas Corvette Club traditionally sponsors the cookout. Jim Gramer provides us with the best burgers, metts and brats and we cook (burn) them to perfection. We will be looking for about 4 or 5 guys that want to have a good time cooking for 75-80 people. Those who attended last year had a great time so mark your calendar and plan to be there again this year.
Weekend of August 24 - Claude Webster wants to plan a picnic at his place the weekend of August 24. Members can plan to stay for the whole weekend or plan to come on Sunday the 26th for a picnic.
Doug said he is glad to see more people coming to the meetings. Each month the group gets bigger. He is looking for a progress report on how the club is doing. Are we talking about the right things, are we making things happen? If we are not, you need to tell us. If you have ideas or suggestions on how we can make things better, please talk to any of the officers. They will be happy to hear any of your suggestions on how to make the Ft. Thomas Corvette Club a better club.
DENTED HUB CAP AWARD – Kurt Meier had been talking back and forth with Dave Brisco almost on a weekly basis on which of their cars would be ready to roll first. All of a sudden Dave shows up on a Saturday morning in the parking lot all set to go to the Campbell County Vocational School but he says, "I cannot get this thing out of third gear and it is a 3-speed".
He had to call a wrecker and tow the car back home. The car has been repaired and tonight he is drove his beautiful 1956 vette to the meeting. Dave said it cost him $1.86 to make the repair to his car.
CLOTHING COMMITTEE: Dan Aseere has received the clothing order that he placed a couple of weeks ago. He will be at Frisch’s on Wednesday, May 23 at 7:30 p.m. to hand out the clothing to those who ordered it. If you cannot be there, he will have the clothing at the June 12 meeting.
